For all clarinet and saxophone reeds.

Single reeds will bend towards the mouthpiece during playing, making the effective  tip opening as well as the facing length of the mouthpiece/reed combination smaller.  This comes on top of the fact that even brand new commercially produced reeds that I have checked are often bent towards the mouthpiece FROM THE VERY START, before the first playing.

Don’t believe me? Check for yourself. Put a new reed on a very smooth surface (for instance a piece of aluminum profile) and look under the reed. Elevations of the heart of the reed of 0.2 mm for a Bb clarinet reed are no exception, 0.4 mm is not to be ruled out. Or check this out.

That is  20-40% of the 1 mm tipopening (Bb clarinet mouthpiece)

This results in a smaller tip opening and shorter facing, meaning less expressive tools. Also, the faster the reed bends towards the mouhtpiece, the shorter the active life will be.

The solution: let the reed dry on a surface that is NOT PLANE! The ReeGenerator (patent pending) has a flat surface for the part that rests on the mouthpiece table, and a curved convex area for the vamp of the reed. Variations in length and slope of the curve result in various amounts of “openness”.

Pulling the reed a bit down on the reedbed will make the change of tip opening/length of the opening less, so there is a lot to experiment.
With the reed’s tip just under the rubber band, there will be virtually no regenerating effect on the reed, making the case also useable as a “normal” flat bed reed case.

The ReeGenerator testcases (See other product page) holds 6 reeds with 6 different reed beds so you can experiment and see what is best for you, given your embouchure, reed brand etc.
The maximimum tip elevation of the reed beds is 0.4 mm, 0.5 mm, 0.6 mm, 0.7 mm, 0.8 mm and 1.0 mm.
Length of the convex part is 30 mm for the small ReeGenerator, 40 for medium and 50 mm for large.

When you’ve tested and decided what’s best for you, there are 6 and 12 ReeGenerators available with one specific reed bed.
These can also be personalised with your name, orchestra, initials, the name of your instruments, or when you’re using mutliple mouthpieces: the mouthpiece model.

The small ReeGenerators  hold 6 or 12 reeds for Eb and Bb clarinet, sopranino and soprano saxophone.
The medium models are for alto and bass clarinet, alto and tenor saxophone.
The large models are for contrabass clarinet, baritone and bass saxophone.
